Our official battery test runs several popular apps, games, and services in timed cycles until the battery is completely dead, given standby time between cycles to track background consumption. Screen brightness and grid settings were standardized so we could draw a parallel between all the models that passed our seats.

The implementations in cycles, and the specific implementation times for each cycle, are:

  • 6 minutes of use (each) – WhatsApp, YouTube, MX Player (offline video), Spotify, PowerAmp (offline music), Chrome;
  • 1 minute (each) – Pokémon Go, Asphalt 8, Subway Surfers, Candy Crush, Modern Combat 5, Injustice;
  • 4 minutes of 3G / 4G calls;
  • 2 minutes of use (each) – Facebook, Gmail and GMaps

results

After our tests, we came to the following conclusions with the Galaxy S23 Ultra:

  • It took 30 hours and 11 minutes to drain the device’s battery;
  • The screen was on for 15 hours and 26 minutes.
  • We ran a full 23 test cycles that included:
    • 138 minutes of browsing on Chrome;
    • 690 minutes of WhatsApp, Spotify, PowerAmp, MX Player and YouTube (138 minutes each);
    • 138 minutes of gaming (Pokémon Go, Subway Surfers, Candy Crush, Injustice, Modern Combat 5, Asphalt 8);
    • 138 minutes from Facebook, Gmail, and Google Maps (46 minutes each);
    • 92 minutes of voice calls over 3G/4G;
  • The most consumed application is MX Player.

Samsung was very bullish about the hardware and software changes to the Galaxy S23 Ultra, being the only one in the group that didn’t gain a battery capacity boost. Apparently, the South Koreans really had reasons to do this, because the new model has proven itself to be a real giant in terms of autonomy, easily bypassing heavyweight competitors such as the iPhone 14 Pro Max and Edge 30 Ultra.

With over 30 hours of total usage time in our hands-on test simulating real-world usage, including over 15 hours of active screen in this period, the Galaxy S23 Ultra proves to be a great choice — and perhaps the best today — for anyone who wants a flagship and doesn’t give up on battery life. Good, as it can withstand up to two days of heavy use without major issues.
