Brazil is down 11 places in the United Nations classification of happiness

a Words Happiness Report – Happiness Report, prepared by the United Nations (UN), used seven indicators to conduct a study with more than 130 countries in order to understand which countries are the happiest in the world. Brazil is already on a downward trajectory, and Rebecca Toyama, Occupational and Behavioral Specialisthe explains his view on the outcome and even offers tips for Brazilians to live happier, more fulfilling lives.

One of the indicators used, perhaps one of the most important, is the question of the degree to which life in that country would give, the data indicate that Brazilians are more miserable. The figures show that even without a serious incident such as a declared civil war within the country, there is a climate of political hostility in Brazil, and this also affects the decline in the ranking.

In addition, the United Nations uses some data from the country, such as: gross domestic product, life expectancy, and each individual’s perception of corruption. Brazil has been on a downward trajectory for some time, this year the country is ranked 49th, eleven places lower than in 2022, when it was 38th.

In 2020, Brazil ranked 29th, and in 2015, when it managed to reach its best, it was 16th.

For behavioral specialist Rebecca Toyama, the drop in the ranking is linked to an almost civil war driven by political polarization, along with the reversal of the pandemic and also with all the issues of the economic crisis.

“In recent years, we have had factors that have harmed Brazilians and kept them away from happiness: the effects of the epidemic, the global economic crisis, and the political scenario in Brazil.

Finland tops the list for the sixth time in a row, followed by Denmark and Iceland. What drew attention in the top ten was Israel, which in 2022 ranked ninth and in 2023 ranked fourth. When we talk about the last positions in the ranking, among the last five we find countries in Africa and the Middle East, such as Botswana, Lebanon and Afghanistan, finishing the ranking.

To improve Brazil’s position in the ranking, the expert believes that the country is called upon to mature and act as a country among the ten major economies.

“We have the power to transform reality! We need to get out of the role of the victim and go into the role of the hero and maybe this is the call we have to accept, we are a great nation and we have to act this way, starting with the political leaders. It is very important to understand that quality of life and well-being They are things that need to be planned and should not happen by chance. We need to be the cause of the outcome and then we can build a different future with a better quality of life and well-being,” Rebecca reveals.

How to bring more happiness and well-being to the lives of Brazilians?

According to Toyama, it is also necessary for Brazilians to mature to feel responsible for the reality of the nation, rather than wanting to find ways to change countries or even planets.

“Understanding that this is where we will be able to build our history and taking care of this place so that the preparation for this history to happen is in a harmonious and healthy way. Brazilians need to mature as citizens, learn to vote, cooperate with the decisions of their city, and feel responsible for our spaces. So, it is to march On the path of responsibility and maturity. Brazilians must see problems as an opportunity for growth, and understand that a strong, economic, social and moral nation is an incredible legacy that we can leave to future generations.”
