Guardiola explains why he quarreled with the strikers in the City defeat
2 min readPep Guardiola explained why he lost patience with Grealish and Mahrez during Manchester City’s debut in North America Champions League. The Spanish coach stated that the strikers did not comply with the supervision instructions they received, so he ended up arguing with the two on the edge of the field.
“We made it clear in the first half what they had to do and what they didn’t do,” he told BT Sports. “The fights happen.” Despite the scolding, a lot Mahrez also left Grealish their goals in City’s 6-3 defeat against right-back RB Leipzig.
Grealish himself has also commented on the discussion with the coach, saying that Guardiola was just doing his job. “This is how the coach behaves. He always wants more defense and attack, and obviously I will listen after everything he did in the match,” he also told BT Sports.
In addition to Mahrez and Grealish goals, Gabriel Jesus, Aki, Mokele (against) and Cancelo scored for the Nationals. Christopher Nkunko made the three Germans. Manchester City’s next challenge will be two weeks from now, against Paris Saint-Germain in France.
