Haaland scores two goals to lead Borussia Dortmund to the top of the German League | German football
2 min readHe’s back with everything. With nearly a month out of play due to a knee injury, Norway striker Haaland reappeared on the field on Saturday and sent two balls into the net. His two goals were key for Borussia Dortmund to beat Mainz 3-1 at home and lead German Championship, with 18 points, in the eighth round – Reus opened the scoring, and Burkardt cut back. As a bonus, he returned to the artillery lead in the competition, with nine, more than Poland’s Lewandowski, than Bayern Munich.
Borussia started under pressure. Reus scored a superb goal just three minutes into the match, hitting the corner with a kick from the edge of the box. The home team’s dominance was maintained in the second half, and Haaland extended the advantage with a penalty kick, at nine. Near the end, at 42, Mainz withdrew, and Burkhardt took advantage of the failure to defend.
The slight difference made the confrontation tense for Borussia in the last minutes. But, in a great move by Bellingham from the left wing, the pass went out to Haaland, free in the middle in front of the goalkeeper, to score the victory by the end of a minute in the corner, in the 49th minute.
