The Labor Party has said it will not visit Russia or Ukraine until a truce is reached in the war, which began in February last year.
President Lula reported via a social network on Friday (26) that he had spoken on the phone with the Russian President, Vladimir Putin.
According to the Workers’ Party, he told Putin on the call that “at this moment” he cannot go to Russia to participate in the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum, which will be held from June 14 to 17 in the European country.
The Workers’ Party also said that in the phone call with Putin on Friday, he reaffirmed the Brazilian government’s readiness – along with India, Indonesia and China – for dialogue with Russia and Ukraine in order to seek peace in Eastern Europe.
“I just spoke on the phone with the Russian President, Vladimir Putin. I thanked him for inviting him to go to the International Economic Forum in St., Indonesia and China, to talk to both sides of the conflict in search of peace.” Lola said on a social network.
A conversation for peace
The Brazilian president spoke in various forums and on international visits of his desire to be an interlocutor for peace between Russia and Ukraine, which have been at war since February of last year.
Batista also said that he could not visit either country until there was a truce in the conflict.
This Thursday (25), Lula said, also via social media, that he had spoken to Chinese representative Xi Jiping on the phone, and on this occasion they also discussed the issue of war.
“We talked about the global situation, the need for peace in Ukraine, our countries’ participation in the BRICS summit in August. And about our strategic partnership at the bilateral level,” Lula wrote on Thursday.

Dispute with Zelensky
This weekend, the Brazilian president participated in the G7 summit in Japan as a guest. On that occasion, he condemned the violation of Ukrainian territorial integrity.
Even the President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelensky, requested a bilateral meeting with Lula during the G7, but according to the Brazilian government, the meeting did not take place due to inconsistency of agendas.
On March 2, Lula held a video conference with Zelensky and was invited to visit the eastern European country. On this occasion, Lula said that Brazil would like to join the group of countries negotiating peace.
“I reaffirmed Brazil’s willingness to talk to other countries and take part in any initiative on peacebuilding and dialogue. War can interest no one,” Lula wrote.
Also after this videoconference, Zelensky thanked Brazil for its support. “We stress the importance of adhering to the principle of sovereignty and territorial integrity of states. We also discussed diplomatic efforts to restore peace to Ukraine and the world,” the Ukrainian president wrote on social media.
