Marilia Mendonca: Civil Police are investigating the leak of autopsy photos – Gerais

The Civil Police of Minas Gerais (PCMG) reports that it has “introduced an administrative procedure” to investigate the leak of photos of the autopsy of singer Marilia Mendonca on Thursday (13/4).

“The Civil Police have reported that the system in which investigation documents are stored is subject to audit and that the Oversight Authority for Police Information and Intelligence (SIIP) is already conducting surveys in order to identify all accesses to the indicated report,” says the institution’s advisory. Police in a note, noting that “it is inconsistent with these events and ensures that the action is investigated to clarify and hold those involved accountable.”
“Photos from the police investigation into the accident and death of singer Marilia Mendonca have begun to circulate in WhatsApp groups,” the singer’s team said in a press release.

According to the text, the artist’s mother, Donna Ruth, preferred not to comment on the matter, but asked that “people respect, sympathize, and understand that there is a family that suffers every time such situations occur.”

The leaked photos of Marilla were framed as defamation of a corpse – an offense under Article 212 of Brazil’s penal code, which is described as an act of disrespect for the dead or their ashes. The penalty applicable in case of conviction ranges from one to three years imprisonment in addition to a fine.

Even after her death, Marília Mendonça continues to dominate digital platforms. For example, only their EP Decretos Reais (Vol. 3), released on March 16, already surpasses 17.9 million plays on Spotify with just four tracks.
