The lawsuit claims that the issue of PlayStation 5 (PS5) crashes and shutdowns is consistent and common, taking Amazon consumer reviews and Reddit social media reports as evidence. Some posts comment that the console shuts down without warning during the game, and upon restart displays its traditional message that the game did not shut down properly and that this could corrupt data and damage the device.

The problem seems to occur quite often in PlayStation 5 (PS5) games, to the point where some users prefer to play the PlayStation 4 versions (PS4) of games for backward compatibility to avoid it.

According to Christina, Sony will be aware of the issue and will still sell the PlayStation 5 (PS5) without warning consumers that they might be affected. Also according to the consumer, many might not buy the video game if they knew about the situation.

In the lawsuit, the request is that the company pay damages to those affected and cover attorneys’ salaries. An injunction is also required to prohibit Sony from maintaining any practices deemed unfair or misleading in this process in the future.

It’s worth noting that Sony’s support page lists some issues with sudden console shutdowns and states that video games that frequently crash and shut down can be fixed under warranty.
