Amazon plans to open several large physical retail outlets across the United States, which will act as department stores, a step that will help the technology company expand sales in clothing, home appliances, electronics and other areas.

According to sources, the first stores are expected to open in the states of Ohio and California. The new retail space will be about 30,000 square feet (approximately 2,700 square meters), smaller than most regular stores, and will offer products from major consumer brands.

It is not clear which brands will be offered, however people said the company’s own brand products should stand out. Amazon sells a wide range of products through its many brands, including clothing, furniture, batteries and electronics. Plans are not yet final and could change, these people said.

The extension to the new model will allow Amazon to offer customers a variety of products that they can try in person before deciding to buy. This is especially beneficial in the apparel industry, which can be a guessing game for customers who shop online due to size and fit. This will give customers even more instant satisfaction than the quick shipping that Amazon offers for online purchases.

Amazon opened its first physics store in 2015 as a bookstore in Seattle. The company sought to differentiate stores from competitors by offering discounts to Amazon Prime customers, offering its own devices for testing and sale, and selecting the most select books based on the rating system.
