Google has announced that it is merging its Nearby Share file-sharing feature with Samsung’s Quick Share, establishing Quick Share as the default file-sharing system for Android devices. The announcement took place during the ongoing CES 2024 expo in Las Vegas, USA.

The new version of Quick Share will be introduced next month as part of the Google Play System update. This update aims to combine the best aspects of both Nearby Share and Quick Share, facilitating the quick and efficient exchange of documents, files, images, links, text, videos, and more between Android and Chrome OS devices.

In addition to this merger, Google also intends to update the Nearby Share for Windows app. This update will enable seamless file sharing with computers operating on Windows 10 or Windows 11.

As for partnerships, LG has been chosen as the first company to pre-install Quick Share on their devices. This means that future LG laptops will come pre-installed with this file-sharing feature, providing users with a convenient and integrated experience.

Quick Share offers a user-friendly interface that displays nearby compatible devices, allowing users to share files wirelessly with just a few taps. To enhance privacy, the feature also includes customizable settings that permit users to select who can share files with them.

This merger between Google’s Nearby Share and Samsung’s Quick Share aims to streamline file sharing for Android users. With the forthcoming update, Android device owners can look forward to a faster, more seamless, and secure file-sharing experience across various platforms.

Stay tuned for the release of the new Quick Share version next month, as well as the updates to Nearby Share for Windows, which are set to enhance the overall file-sharing capabilities for Android users.
