Stellandis and Samsung build the American battery factory

The facility will be located close to the engine, foundry and transmission units in Indiana, where plug-in and electric hybrids will be available.

Stellandis and Samsung STI are preparing to build a new battery factory for electric cars in Indiana, USA. In October, the companies signed a joint venture to manufacture lithium-ion batteries in North America, scheduled for 2025.

The plant has an initial annual production capacity of 23 gigawatt-hours and is likely to increase to 40 gigawatt-hours in the future. The unit will be located in the same US state where Chrysler maintains several facilities to expand production of electric vehicles.

According to News Agency sources, the battery plant is being built near Stollandis’ engine, foundry and transmission units in Kokomo, Indiana, with the aim of serving plug-in auto assembly lines in the United States, Canada and Mexico. In hybrids for full battery electric cars.

The companies have not officially confirmed this information. Stellandis said an announcement would be made on Tuesday about Kokomo’s future operations, including the automaker’s North American COO, Mark Stewart, and Indiana Governor Eric Holcomb.

Last year the manufacturer announced an investment of $ 229 million to manufacture eight-speed electrified transmissions at its three Cocomo plants.
