The first 18 holes in the 2021 PGA Championship had it all. The grandstands stumbled, there were lies inserted in the sand and even a hole-in-one in the style of a trash can. Yes, You read it correctly. The course gritted its teeth hard, allowing only 30 golfers to reach the red. Wind and heat were a significant factor, and Friday Round 2 conditions should not be different because the stock is gaining a peak.
Corey Connors quickly went and stole the show with an opening round 67, to take an early lead, there’s a lot to see in Round 2. Rory McIlroy and Justin Thomas fight from eight sides of the Connors. Jordan Speed, after a bad but solid day 1, is still aiming for a career Grand Slam. Meanwhile, 50-year-old Bill Mickelson is three pages ahead of the 70-year-old after 2 years. The play should be high with treacherous conditions set to cut into the deck and re-test the field over the weekend.
