Dell Raises PC Prices as Demand for Artificial Intelligence Rises What to Expect - Business Insider

Dell raises prices on December 17 amid global memory supply crisis.Business Insider obtained a list of the price changes.

- Dell will increase its prices on December 17, the company has learned.

- The price of the price is related to the test of the mind now in the desire.

- In some cases, the price of computers is expected to rise by hundreds of dollars, an internal document shows.

Your company's Dell laptops will cost more.

Starting on December 17, computer reference prices were to increase

The price raising list is for Dell commercial business - which means sales to corporate clients instead of individual users.Commercial business accounts for about 85% of Dell's annual revenue at the Client Solutions Group (CSG), the section selling laptops and PCS, according to the latest results.

The company is one of the leading suppliers of computers to US companies, and prices will not only increase at Dell.A shortage of industrial memory and storage chips is costing the entire PC industry, affecting competitors such as Lenovo and HP.

The demand for IT infrastructure has caused technology companies to take out large amounts of memory and storage chips, the competition for consumer devices.

A Dell spokesperson told Business Insider that "like others in the industry, Dell is taking targeted pricing actions where necessary, while maintaining continuity of supply and its commitment to customer value."

"Our supply chain is distributed and globally diverse. It is designed to provide the flexibility needed to navigate macroeconomic, regulatory and trade dynamics," the press release said.

What price increases for you

How much a Dell laptop will cost next week depends on how much memory and space you need.

Global defects are found in two major types of chips that are essential components in most consumer devices: DRAM and NAND.

When you buy a laptop, the memory is dramem - randomly installed memory, usually 8-32 GB for the average customer.TAK - the most balled memory - is used for SSD storage, usually around 512GB or 1TB.

Starting next week, Dell Pro and Pro Max notebooks and desktops with 32GB of storage will cost between $130 and $230 more, according to a list of price changes seen by Business Insider. If you choose 128GB of storage, the price will increase to between $520 and $765 per device.

Choosing a laptop with 1TB of storage increases the total cost by $55 to $135.

A Dell employee who works in sales said the percentage increase would be “between 10% and 30%” depending on the contract. They spoke on condition of anonymity because they cannot speak publicly, but Business Insider verified their employment.

AI laptops featuring a 6GB Nvidia RTX PRO 500 Blackwell GPU will become $66 more expensive, and a 24GB GPU will cost $530 more, the pricing chart shows.

"It affects everyone and there is no way to do it, so customers have to pay if they have to," said the sales employee.

How Dell tells salespeople to be prepared

The high cost of sales has led to the sale of groups in the office and company.

On Nov. 25, Dell sent an email to its Go-to-Market (GTM) sales staff, seen by Business Insider, outlining "critical next steps" dealers should take to prepare for the price increase.

"The global supply of memory and storage is shrinking rapidly," Dell warned members of the GTM team.

"Contract prices for DRAM and NAND chips have already increased significantly this quarter, and suppliers are indicating further increases and supply disruptions due to AI demand," Dell said in an email.

The company asked its vendors to "move decisively" ahead of the price hike to "protect value for our customers and for Dell."

The email advised teams to engage with top accounts in the coming week, close deals and plan for key opportunities and multi-quarter deals to protect the sales pipeline.

"An order today does not lock in the current price for future delivery," Dell warned, but said it will help customers who act now stay ahead of "significant expected storage growth."

The Dell sales official said there was an initial rush to help customers buy remaining stock, but now the situation is seen as largely "out of our control."

Dell absorbs some of the costs internally, through a hit to margins and limited discounts offered to sales staff, the employee said.

In the company's third-quarter earnings call on Nov. 25, Dell COO and vice chairman Jeff Clark said the increase in market value was "phenomenal."

"We have not seen debt continue at the rate we saw," said Clarke Clarke, "we said. "Demand is an important way.But we're going through that, we're going to stick to what we've always done."

Why is there a shortage of chips?

Tech companies are buying large quantities of DRAM and NAND to power artificial intelligence models and cloud services, leaving fewer chips for consumer devices.

Coupled with tensions in the international supply chain, the outbreak has prompted three companies that own the DRAM market - Samsung, Synex and Mineron - to raise their prices.

Global technology market research firm Counterpoint said it expects DRAM prices to rise 30% in the final quarter of 2025, following a 50% rise so far this year.

"The entire supply chain cannot meet the demand now that is inevitable in research, he told the business.

This price is not "likely to have an indistinct effect on all types of PCS from all vendors," O'SONSSC all, using the supply shortage is expected to continue throughout the year 1526.
