Argentine president says ‘Brazilians came from the jungle’ | Argentina

Argentine President Alberto Fernandez has sparked a Twitter storm and a regional betting debate, with Spanish Prime Minister Point Pedro Sanchez seeking to develop relations with the South American country with Europe with misconceptions.

“The Mexicans are from the Indians, the Brazilians are from the jungle, but We came from Argentine ships. They are ships from Europe, ”Fernandez said, referring to the many European immigrants who came to the country. He later apologized for the comments and said his country’s diversity was something to be proud of.

Fernandez seems to have taken this phrase from a song by local musician Lito Nepia, one of whom has declared himself a fan on more than one occasion.

These comments provoked a viral response on social media, with many criticizing the center-left leader for racial insensitivity.

“I do not want to offend anyone. In any case, I apologize if anyone feels offended or invisible,” he said on Twitter.

The Brazilian media directed Fernandez’s statements on Wednesday and many on social media joked that right – wing President Jair Bolsanaro would enjoy a return to the left – wing Argentine leader, with whom he is not always visible.

Eduardo Bolzano, a congressman and son of the Brazilian president, has slammed the comments as “racist” and retaliated against the recession in Argentina since 2018 over its complex economy.

“I say the sinking ship is an Argentine ship,” he posted on Twitter.

Netizens on YouTube posted responses under the video of the speech, expressing anger or silence.

“Sorry Mexican and Brazilian friends, we feel a lot of embarrassment on behalf of all Argentines. You know how much we love you and your countries and customs,” said a user named Barbara Pongiovani.
