Firefighter killed, another injured in Agua Dulce fire station shooting; Shooter’s body found at home Acton – CBS Los Angeles

Fresh Water (CBSLA) – A firefighter was shot dead and another wounded by a firefighter on duty at the Los Angeles County Fire Department in Aqua Dulles on Tuesday morning.

A body believed to be that of the shooter was later found in a nearby burning house.

The shooting took place at 10:50 a.m. at LACFD Station No. 81 on 8700 blocks of Sierra Highway.

The Los Angeles County Fire Department tweeted, “It is with heavy hearts that LACoFD confirms that a tragic shooting took place.

During a three-hour news conference in the afternoon, fire department chief Daryl Asby said, “I stand here with a heavy heart to say that one of our firefighters suffered his injuries.” The shooting, he said, was “the worst news I’ve ever heard in my life.”

Asby confirmed that the shooting killed a 44-year-old man who had worked in the field for more than 20 years. The 54-year-old fire captain was shot and wounded and is in a critical but stable condition after being airlifted to Henry Mayo Hospital in Valencia, he said.

Asby said the shooter was a firefighter who was not scheduled to work Tuesday. The shooter returned to his home, detained himself, set the house on fire and then died, but the executioner has not yet confirmed the identity of the body found in the house.

Authorities responded to a fire that broke out in a large house in the 2,600 block of Bent Spur Drive in Acton, about 10 miles from the station.

Heavy flames and smoke were seen from the home, and the body was found in the yard with a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

Firefighters poured water on the house in hopes of preventing the flames from spreading to nearby brushes or other structures.

The fire continued to burn Tuesday afternoon, with much of the structure burning to the ground.

At 2:30 p.m., homicide investigators with the LA County Sheriff’s Department found SKY2 coming to Fire Station 81 where the shooting took place.

Los Angeles County Superintendent Hilda Solis tweeted, “My deepest condolences to the family of the firefighter who was tragically killed in today’s shooting at Fire Station 81 in Agua Dulce. My thoughts are with our ACLACOFD family. In my direction, flags will be flown at half-staff in all county buildings. ”
