On Twitter, Northern Port police expressed regret over KP’s death. “Our focus from the beginning was to bring it home with the FBI and national partners. We will continue to work with the FBI to find more answers.” The cause of death has not been released.
News of the body’s discovery comes as Florida authorities are also searching for Petito’s fiance after the family told police Friday that they had not seen him since last Tuesday. Laundry, 23, has not been charged with missing the girl, but investigators believe she has hidden important information about what might have happened to Pettito. After authorities announced that Laundry’s location was unknown, Pettito’s family issued a statement saying, “Coffee’s whole family wants the world to know that Brian is missing. He is in hiding. Coffee is missing.”
Gabriel has not been in contact with his family since August, and he moved to Grand Dayton National Park in Wyoming. According to police, Brian, who returned home alone to Florida next month, is thought to be the “relevant person” in the investigation.
The couple, who traveled in an SUV, shared photos and videos of their trip on social media. The two were childhood sweethearts and moved from Blue Point, New York, to live in the North Harbor in 2019.
Last Thursday, a video released by the Moab Police showed the two being detained on August 12. In a post by a police officer, the young woman cried and complained to the security agent about her mental illness.
Despite the fight, there was no record of a police event and no details of what happened next. The van in which the couple was traveling is being searched by police in search of clues to help clarify the mystery of the girl’s disappearance.
Laundry’s sister Cassie Laundry said she was worried about Good Morning America. “Obviously my family and I want KP to be safe,” Laundry said.
“She’s like a sister. My children love her. All I want is for her to come home safely and be found. That is a big misconception.”
